1. Agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and the operator of PlotCatalyst Echo ("we", "us", or "the app"). By downloading, installing, or using the app, you accept these Terms.
2. License to use the app
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use PlotCatalyst Echo for your own writing and editing purposes on devices you own or control. You may not redistribute, resell, decompile, reverse-engineer, or attempt to extract the app's source code (except where local law expressly allows it).
3. No account required
Echo does not require user accounts. There is no login, no password, and no central user database. Your content lives on your device.
4. Your content
Anything you import, create, edit, dictate, or annotate in the app remains yours. You retain all rights to your manuscripts, notes, voice recordings, and any AI rewrites you accept and apply. We claim no ownership over your work.
You are responsible for having the rights to anything you import into the app. Don't import manuscripts you don't have permission to use.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Echo to:
- Violate any law or anyone's rights, including intellectual property rights.
- Generate, store, or distribute material that is unlawful, harmful, harassing, defamatory, or sexually explicit involving minors.
- Attempt to access, probe, or disrupt the AI gateway, the Kokoro server, the Supabase configuration, or any other system the app talks to.
- Circumvent the free-tier limits or subscription gates.
- Use the app for any commercial reselling of the app's services to third parties.
6. AI-generated content
Echo can generate paragraph rewrites, redundancy variations, metadata suggestions, and cover images using third-party AI models. AI-generated outputs are non-deterministic and may be wrong, biased, or unsuitable for your purpose. Treat them as suggestions, not finished work, and review them before accepting them into your manuscript.
You are solely responsible for any AI-generated content that you choose to keep, publish, or distribute. We make no warranty that AI outputs are accurate, original, copyright-clean, or fit for any particular purpose.
If you bring your own OpenRouter key, your usage is also subject to OpenRouter's terms and to the terms of the underlying model provider you select.
7. Third-party services
Echo integrates with several third-party services that you may choose to use:
- ElevenLabs (voice synthesis)
- Kokoro (voice synthesis, default host
sigil22.cloud) - OpenRouter (BYO AI models, Premium)
- Dropbox (backup & restore)
- Apple App Store / Google Play / RevenueCat (purchases)
Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their availability, performance, pricing, or policies.
8. Subscriptions, free tier & refunds
Echo is free to download. The free tier includes a limited number of manuscripts, AI requests, and voice notes per manuscript. Premium subscriptions remove those limits and unlock additional features (e.g., bring-your-own AI key).
Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google (depending on your platform) on a recurring basis. The price, billing period, and renewal date are shown at the point of purchase and in your platform's subscription settings.
Subscriptions auto-renew unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the next renewal. You can cancel at any time through your App Store or Google Play account.
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google according to their refund policies. We don't have the ability to issue platform refunds directly, but we'll happily back up your request — see the Support page.
9. Free trials
If we offer a free trial, the terms (length, eligibility) are stated at the point of purchase. Unless cancelled before the trial ends, the trial automatically converts to a paid subscription at the displayed price.
10. Changes to the app or these terms
We may update Echo and these Terms over time. Material changes to the Terms will be flagged in-app and dated at the top of this page. Your continued use of the app after a change indicates acceptance.
11. Termination
You can stop using Echo at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or remove access to features for any user who materially violates these Terms (for example, attempting to abuse third-party services through the app).
12. Disclaimers
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI outputs will meet your requirements.
You are responsible for backing up your work. The Dropbox backup feature is provided as a convenience; you remain the only party that can guarantee a copy of your manuscripts exists.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the app or these Terms is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you have paid us for the app in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD $50.
We will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost data, lost manuscripts, or lost business opportunities, even if advised of the possibility.
Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages — in those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
14. Indemnification
You agree to defend and indemnify us against any third-party claims arising from your use of the app, your content, or your violation of these Terms or any law.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which we operate, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising under these Terms will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer protection law in your jurisdiction provides otherwise.
16. Apple-specific terms
If you obtained Echo through the Apple App Store, the following additional terms apply:
- These Terms are between you and us only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Your license to use the app is limited to use on Apple-branded products you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, who will refund the purchase price (if any). Beyond that, Apple has no warranty obligation in respect of the app.
- We — not Apple — are responsible for addressing any product-liability, intellectual-property, or consumer-protection claims relating to the app.
- You represent that you are not in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo and are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
